How on Earth is that dangerous?

Obviously it can displace Oxygen in a confined space; but surely you'd need a large cylinder for that, rather than the small amount I imagine was in your parcel.

You aren't suppose to send gas cannisters in the post inert or otherwise.

Mainly because some idiots won't know what is inert and will send anything claiming it is.

Exactly this. I made the mistake of sending because I had received it in the post. Turns out you can do this if you have a special license (I don't)

Called again today and it seems they haven't yet sent it to their National Returns Centre in Belfast for assessment. Why they would choose to move "dangerous goods" about seems a bit odd. Surely minimal handling is best? Anyway, this time I found out they expect to assess these things within 14 days so I have another 4 days to go before I find out the fate of my parcel.

So sarin is safe to transport from Stanstead to Belfast? Interesting

Ah yeah.. i've heard of the Belfast place. The process is:

They'll open it, chuck away the wrappings, decide it's not dangerous, declare it untraceable and then either flog it to staff, or if none of them want it, on ebay. You'll never see it again.

I have a hunch you're going to be spot on.

As I paid for special delivery with insurance I wonder if I can claim for them "losing" it. I expect they'll say any claim is invalid because it had nasties in it (inert nasties at that).
