    Push Doctor - online GP

Seems like a good idea in principle. One of the hassles I've found working as a contractor especially if you work miles from home is getting a GP appointment.
My last gig was 90 mins away so getting a GP appt sorted was a logistical nightmare. Would have gladly paid £20 for no hassle.

Been looking at push doctor. Sounds like a good idea. Video consultations etc. £20 for one off (£8 for prescription) or £20/month. BUT you can't get an NHS prescription. You have to pay the cost of the drugs at the chemist. Might work ok for some things that are cheap enough anyway (and cheaper than the prescription charge in England).

Worryingly though, when I spoke to them they tried to sell it as such (i.e. some items were cheaper than the £8.60 or whatever) and didn't even know it was zero in Wales. I've no idea how much common drugs cost but I guess the whole idea falls down if you pay for an appointment, get prescription then rock up at chemist to find it costs £200 for the order.

Although I guess in this case you could bail, make an appointment with normal NHS doctor.

Anyone tried anything similar? I must admit I like the idea in principle....

(One thing about Wales - its got to be prescribed AND dispensed in Wales. When I work in Gloucester, I couldn't get prescription previous evening and take it with me next day and get it lunchtime or something. Right PITA).

NHS (England) walk-in centres are pretty good in my experience if you need to get a prescription for something like a ear infection. There may be one near your gig.

Certainly a better idea. But then again it depends on things like wait time.

My GP at home has just brought in online bookings but limited supply. So you can get an appt early or late as long as you wait for 2 weeks. Other than that, its phone 50 million times at 8am and hope to get an appointment that day. Which is a nightmare. By 810 forget it.

Current gig is in Gods own country so not so much of a problem currently. Still pay £20 though to save the hassle....

I found walk-in centre waiting times good, but maybe I was lucky. They tend to open at 8 a.m. and stay open late (maybe 10 p.m.), so you can either get there before work or go afterwards.

Temporary registration with a GP is a possibility as well. You may need to give a local address as your temporary address... and I guess it works for Welsh residents temporarily in England.

Yeh not sure if they've got these in Wales to be honest. They all rock up and A&E it seems....

I remember a few years ago when mrs PC was really ill and we had to go to A&E. Got there at 10pm or something like that and got home at midday next day. Nuts. Seemed full of people with bags of peas on their heads with slight bumps, and polish people with chest infections (who hadnt got a GP). And the police dragged in a few people kicking and screaming covered in blood - nice!
