Everyone loves going to the beach when the temp is in the mid to late 20s. The problem with Australia is that it hits the mid-30's for a month straight and you don't want to do anything else but stay inside in the air conditioning.

      This is Australia:

Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

ahhhh that's so sweet Sasy, you would miss me.

The misses has been offered an opportunity there, and I've had a standing offer for NZ for about 3 years. So, I guess they must be letting anyone in.

To go to Australia as someone aged around 40 you would want to take 2.5 million GBP with you. Otherwise you will be worse off than in the UK.

This is because you will want to live somewhere nice, with jobs, to justify such a move at that age. Decent houses in that place will cost you 1.5M sterling. You are too old for a mortgage.

Recent changes mean visas are being made harder to obtain for IT skills.

Weather in Australia varies depending on where you are in that vast great land.

There is a lot of work in Sydney - working conditions similar to London. Most people have a bad commute and a long day.

It's paradise but settling there middle aged is very difficult to pull off successfully. You'll miss your mates when you fail to find new ones amongst the Aussies.

You are 20 years too late basically, unless you are a sterling millionaire- which I doubt given your desire to escape.

I was thinking of Brisbane where prices are (still ) reasonable, access to gold coast, resonably OK contract market and excellent weather.

Retirement age if you are around 40 is 67. Mortgage terms are flexible like the UK.

Jobs - depends on your sector. Hardly any fintech stuff around.

Brisvegas gets extremely humid in summer - but it's not coastal so you have to swim in the river. And it's as boring as batsh1t.

The goldcoast is full of chavs.

One interesting thing about QLD is that they have different drinking laws compared to the other states. In other states the barman is personally liable if caught serving an intoxicated person. But in Brisbane this law does not apply -so the pubs are just like the UK - full of smashed up chavs!

                    Enjoy!

Yes, but you cannot sustain the repayments necessary to take on such a long mortgage.

There are very few "IT people" over 50 working in Australia.
