The UK government needs to be impartial in NI.

By having the DUP as part of the UK government when the NI assembly fell apart before the GE is not impartial.

Irish premier warns May not to put Good Friday Agreement at risk - Independent.ie

The 1998 peace accord, which provides the template for powersharing at Stormont, commits the UK and Irish governments to demonstrate "rigorous impartiality" when it comes to the differing political traditions in Northern Ireland.

The Conservatives' ability to adhere to such a commitment if they are wedded to a parliamentary alliance with the DUP has been questioned.
The issue is particularly relevant at the moment, as talks to save the crisis-hit powersharing institutions at Stormont are due to resume on Monday.

Given the British Government can't force any party in Stormont to go back into power sharing how can a Conservative/DUP coalition make a difference? And as you said, it fell apart prior to the GE and this was due to issues related to Northern Ireland.

The Storment problem has been caused by the refusal of the DUP leader, who May is negotiating with, not resigning her leadership over her involvement in some scandal. She stands aside and SF will go into power sharing in NI.

Hence May going into UK government with the current DUP leader at the helm can cause the peace process to fall apart.

n a dramatic intervention, the former Conservative prime minister warned the peace process is “fragile” and could fall part if the British government is no longer seen as “impartial”.

“People shouldn’t regard it as a given. It’s not certain, it’s under stress, it’s fragile,” Sir John said.

He urged the Prime Minister to pursue a minority government without “the baggage” of an agreement with the DUP.

And he highlighted the danger of “hard men still there, lurking in the corners of communities deciding they wish to return to some sort of violence”.

With the DUP now running Northern Ireland, some Republican hardmen will now be going round trying to start some trouble. It will be more difficult to stop them if the Catholic community are totally p***ed off.

Incidentally if Sinn Fein were to pop up in a UK government the same thing would happen in the Unionist communities, they would probably start marching.
