The government said it made the offer in the “expectation that the EU would offer reciprocal treatment for UK nationals resident in its member states”.

So before you get on the jingoistic high horse you might want to consider other factors. Just because I don't pay tax in the UK does not mean I don't contribute.
Try and explain this to people and the level of networking is over their head. Pointless.Comment

Big ******* deal, you introduced someone from Fife to a German client, but how many German clients have been put off dealing with the UK by your general incompetence and negative attitude. They must think we are all like you, jeesh its a wonder they haven't decided to invade again thinking we are useless dicks like you.Comment

Being go between clients here and companies at home is not something easily replaced. You mock and jest as much as you like, it requires someone with knowledge of the local area and language in both countries as well as the engineering niche I specialise. There's not exactly a queue at the door.
The relationships between EU countries are complex and mature. The stewards of the UK only demonstrate incompetence with supporters like yourself only too keen to rally behind them.
I'm quite serious, in years to come the UK is going to be more dependent on expats whom have knowledge of the local area the area the UK has chosen to abandon. A stipend would seem appropriate to those that remain shoring up relationships. Rolls Royce being one I bet you, heck knows what will happen between Derby and Berlin sites."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". That pro-Brexit rag the Daily Express ran a poll last week (Tuesday to Thursday with 96,000 responses) but pulled it after it finished as they didn't like the results:
