Default Scotland and Wales formally call for funding boost after DUP deal

The Scottish and Welsh governments have joined forces to launch a formal dispute process over Theresa May’s deal with the Democratic Unionist party.

Following last month’s general election, the prime minister agreed to give £1bn of additional funding to Northern Ireland in return for support from the DUP for her minority government.

The devolved administrations in Edinburgh and Cardiff argue that Barnett formula rules, which calculate how much money should be distributed to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, mean they are entitled to an extra £2.9bn and £1.67bn respectively as a result of the deal.

Derek Mackay and Mark Drakeford, the finance secretaries of Scotland and Wales, have written to the Treasury to invoke a formal dispute resolution process through the joint ministerial committee.

Would Scottish Tory MPs vote against it?

Would the DUP vote against it? Their deal with the Tories only extends to Brexit votes.

This makes me chuckle the Welsh already take out £15 billion a year more than they put in, perhaps they should get their affairs in order first.

    You sure about that figure?

That's more than the net to the EU.

Instead of giving net £290million a week to the Welsh, why don't we leave them and stay in the EU instead?
I could almost see that written on the side of a bus!

What about London, the supposed engine of the UK. That gets huge per capita spending. Is it net contributor or gainer?

Probably a net contributor but then something can be said of that this is only the case as people are drawn to the capital, in effect it depletes the pool of skilled labour elsewhere in the country.

Wales doesn't produce much, so they must buy it from the UK. We don't buy much from them. So we kick them out of the UK, do a favourable trade deal with them, and the money we save could go to building a better relationship with the EU by not sending the biggest fkwits to do our negotiations.

It would be like signing their death certificates. Them Tory seats, they must know full well they were not gained on merit but rather the SNP's indy stance.
“We've always defined ourselves by the ability to overcome the impossible. And we count these moments. These moments when we dare to aim higher, to break barriers, to reach for the stars, to make the unknown known. We count these moments as our proudest achievements. But we lost all that. Or perhaps we've just forgotten that we are still pioneers. And we've barely begun. And that our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, because our destiny lies above us.”
