    Golf: The Open

After the magnificent festival of golf we have witnessed on these shores beginning with the Irish Open 4 weeks ago, the blue riband event has been won by the most boring man in the game. Boring, boring Speith.

I had such high hopes of some home grown talent coming through this year - Tommy Fleetwood maybe or Poults considering the form he's been in. I actually lost £100 when I had a flutter on Francesco Molinari - my man didn't even make the cut.

On a positive note, it was good to see Ellie Barbour slip into Hazel Irvine's shoes so effortlessly. I think television coverage is safe in her hands.

By the way, I don't know if any of you are watching the highlights on BBC Television but I've just seen myself (yep, I was there . I'm wearing a ping sun visor with a diamond patterned Pringle vee neck and am carrying a large, pink Taylor Made golfing umbrella. See if you can spot me!

WHS - Playing golf must be boring enough, but watching it is orders of magnitude more tedious.

Golf and Cricket are British sports. If you don't like watching or playing them, you're obviously not very supportive of Britain.

I had such high hopes of some home grown talent coming through this year - Tommy Fleetwood [no real major experience yet] maybe or Poults [has been clinging to Ryder cup memories & on the way out as a golfer] considering the form he's been in [who? Poults or Fleetwood? Poults only just managed to retain his card thru having to qualify & TF needs more experience in main events].

You clearly know nothing about golf...

Hardly a genius. On the 13th...his tee shot twas around 200 yards off target...

              What happened to the brits...

              Great entertainment all weekend...

Indeed - even I cannot slice a ball that far!

and then yes great recovery - but it wasn't really as he had a good lie off the range.

the brits were rubbish - dunno why but they Rory for example was spraying it around like a porn start.

Seve was like that - a great recovery player because he tended to stick his tee shots in the worst places. (I say "tended to", I don't mean every one, but he hit more off course than most other players did at the time)

Indeed, and [for those commenters who are clearly non-golf players] this is where the 'genius' comes into play...
