I very much suspect as the finances get worse due to Brexit that taxes and that includes inheritance tax will be rising. It is inevitable.

The Tories seem to be milking this for all its worth but come on a) he didn't say it and b) it wasn't in the manifesto.

He said he'd deal with the burden of historical student debt. Writing it off would certainly be one way of doing it, but it's not the only way (tax breaks, for instance). He categorically did not say that old debt would be written off.

Indeed in spite of eye wateringly high taxes they function pretty well. It certainly looks like the UK is in any case heading in that direction as the next government is probably going to be a left wing Labour government that will be jacking up taxes.

They are social democrats e.g. trying to make everyone equal at the start of life, high taxes to pay for a good welfare state.

What is suggested here is more akin to Communism.

Edited to say: Giving everyone equality of opportunity is different to expecting everyone to have the same equality of outcome.

Agreed it is ridiculous but no more ridiculous than any of the numerous articles suggesting the UK has a bright future outside the EU.

That's because when you're poor, you can see the merits of wealth distribution. When you're reasonably wealthy, mammon isn't quite so evil.
