British Gas to raise electricity prices by 12.5%.
No doubt the government will recommend shopping around to gain a 1/2% reduction.

"This rise reflects an underlying increase in policy and transmission costs."

The policy: CEO to directors at board meeting "a little bonus for Christmas is in order" - Cheer.

Transmission costs: gaffer tape required at no. 15 Laurasten Gardens.

Gas prices remain the same but electricity rises 12.5%

You can blame that on Carbon tariffs and Climate Change laws from the EU forcing the adoption of expensive means to generate electricity from renewables and "sustainable" wood chips from Canada to replace coal.

But I know you will blame Brexit because, well, it's all Brexiters fault isn't it?

If that was the case EU prices would rise too; but they don't, at least not that high. In some EU countries they have been reduced,

Jesus wept. Meanwhile the government says all cars need to be electric by 2040, where the cost of running them will be about £5 per mile.

£5 will be worth $0.00001 by then.

£5 says the average salary will still be £27.6k by 2040.

Or we'll all have to use diesel generators to charge our electric cars. How ironic would that be...

No, we'll borrow money off the Chinese so that the French can build more nuclear power stations.

Or maybe we'll have a trade agreement with America and buy in their coal, because Trump said they were going to reopen the coal mines that were unprofitable.
