Was it a hit and run or did their insurance pay up?

All covered by insurance fortunately.

I had observed someone waiting to join a dual carriageway from a side road, so I pulled into the outside lane like nice people do. Unfortunately, I didn't realise they needed the outside lane too. They rammed me into the central reservation and my car briefly went a bit Dukes of Hazard on two wheels. He pulled over and enquired "what happened?" to which I replied "I do believe you bumped into me, dear chap". In hindsight, I should have called the police and had him breathalysed. At the time, I was glad to be alive and with it enough to collect insurance details.

1952 Merc 180 Grey.

Scrapped in 1973. Needed new starter ring. I should have repaired it.

All you had to do was stick a washer under one of the spark plugs to change the compression on that cylinder ( assuming petrol).
Engines tend to stop in the same place so the starter ring gets worn more at that spot.
Changing the comp. ratio would mean the engine would stop in a different place, giving you a few weeks to flog it.

Pug 309 GTi. I test drove that and the 205 1.9 GTi, which I loved, but had I bought that instead of the 309 I'd have ended up in a ditch with the rest of them

Miss my TR7 Special too. Wife (well, girlfriend at the time) hated it as it broke down constantly but I loved it. Got a job with a company car so the TR7 had to go

My MK1 1.8 MX-5 track day toy. I rebuilt that car twice; the first time was when I bought it back to life and then the second was a car fire which started from the battery in the boot, writing off most of the electrics in the rear end.

I sold it to be sensible last year, which is never a good idea. I bought an S2000 this year with the thought of it being a daily driveable car that I "could" do a track day in.

... Have I seen the track this year? Have I f.....

Get another Mk1 "Five" - you know you want to , they're cheap as chips (as long as you don't want a minter). Brilliant fun, still got mine

The only other one I miss is the Peugot 406 - the kids loved it. Especially 135 mph down Wrotham Hill windows down....

If it was a Mk2 then 1975 surely?

1974 would still be a Mk1

Learnt to drive in a Mk2, my first car was a 1976 Mk2 Pop Plus (in the mid 80's)

205 1.6GTi (even better than the 1.9 that I owned or the Renault 5 GT Turbo or the Escort RS Turbo.......there was a theme years ago!).

A lot of people say that, I had both and preferred the 1.9 (more torque). Both great fun regardless
