    reciepts - self assessment

    Hello Folks

I am in the process of preparing to do my self assessment. I spent good money last year on doing up my buy to let flat but haven't kept the bills. Is it ok to include those expenses to offset the rent received without the receipts? A lot of the payments were in cash to local Joe painter.

    Cheerios.

You'll only need the receipts if Her Indoors Revenue and Customs ask for them. Question is, do you feel lucky?

Cash to Joe the painter is so going to raise a red flag if hector chooses to have a look see.

Top tip: open a separate bank account into which all rent goes in and all costs associated with the property go out. Keep it separate from personal expenses and then should hector want a look they won't have any reason to go through all your personal finances and pick holes in what you've spent and why

Piss poor effort if you're a sockie, and if you're not, then a pair of these in your size might just come in handy...
