Would petrol cause that type of destruction alone? If so must have been more than the typical few litres splashed about the place.

Also if the store was open at the time how did the shop assistant killed in the blast not see/smell what was going on and escape with the alleged perps, one reported to be her boyfriend? Maybe he wanted shut of her as well?

What mongs like these perps typically don't know is that petrol ignited in a confined space can literally detonate with tremendous force and speed. That is how internal combustion engines work!

And the combustion doesn't have to be that confined to build up a critical pressure - A room with the doors and windows closed, or even petrol burning in a big pile of brushwood, can be enough.

Went to college in Leicester and used to live not far away from Hinckley Road. To be honest, it would have been worth flattening the whole area with a bigger bomb years ago....

I seem to recall one side or another in that former Yugoslavian ethnic cleansing business developing a way to prevent people returning to their houses after they'd been thrown out. It involved dousing the upstairs carpets/flooring with petrol, and leaving a burning candle on the lower floor. Eventually the fumes would ignite and the whole house explode - roof blown off, walls blown out type of explosion. That way, the villians could move on to the next village to carry on their persecution.

Can't find a linky to corroborate this story though.
