    Leicester corner shop blast

Any thoughts or rumours? Presumably it wasn't the obvious possibility of gas, or that would have been confirmed by now.

The police are saying there's no reason to think it was terrorist related, but perhaps it was crime-related (some family honour BS perhaps or commercial rivalry) ?

Or could it have been triggered by a short-circuited lithium battery in the basement, causing an explosion that in turn ignited a gas cylinder?

Definitely seems to have originated in the basement

Probably gas. It's difficult for them to confirm the cause when the entire place has collapsed and they're searching for people in the rubble, which is why it's taking some time. But it's probably gas.

The Polish shop workers have survived, all but one without injury requiring hospitalisation, so it's unlikely the blast was in there, or in the basement beneath them. UPDATE: that was according to a Facebook post reported in the local press, but it now appears that the staff aren't yet fully accounted for; the business owner survived, but is unsure what has happened to the staff.

It was probably in the flat upstairs, which was occupied by a family of four. And in case you were wondering, the family appear to have been Hindu, judging by the fact that the brother of one of them has been speaking to the local paper and is called Krishna.

Also 4 people dead so a bit of respect until there are some actual facts to discuss would probably be appropriate.

        Edit : Now 5.

The DM hasn't stated it was linked to terrorist activities, so there must be very clear evidence that it wasn't, or they'd have it on the front page.

When has this type of house demolition not been due to gas explosion?

Maybe they tried the old swap the gas meter ends trick to get free gas and they messed it up causing a leak.
Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.

I'm not saying one way or the other, but given that the initial rescue isn't complete then it seems unlikely that they'll be doing any serious forensic investigation yet.

On that basis, surely it would be far too early for them to speculate strongly on what went on?

Gas explosions can be incredibly destructive and deadly, so it's not exactly unheard of. This one happened near me: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/new...-oaps-10657822

Was incredible, genuinely looked like somebody had come buy and knocked the house down with a wrecking ball.

You mean it was ISIS? Are you trying to imply it's the muslamic rayguns again?

Another large explosion in Manchester today, although that was reported to be a "home-made, non-terrorist-related bomb"

So doubtless some over-zealous chemistry teacher preparing a demo, or someone planning to go fishing with a short cut to sitting on a river bank for hours.

Or maybe it's the Rocket Man experimenting with miniature V2 rockets that can go half way round the world all the way from North Korea
