    I have a theory, opinion, whatever, that dementia is a side effect of living too long. The advances of medicine and higher standards of living mean that our brains are giving out when disease would have done for us much earlier.

    Not saying that applies to all cases of dementia, of course, because for every tenuous correlation there's something completely the opposite which confounds it. We're complicated creatures and don't all react in the same way to the same stimuli.
