May Just Can't Help Herself -

Just don't get sick now linky

Downing Street has insisted it stands by the government’s strict immigration regime, after Theresa May was accused of blocking requests to allow more overseas doctors to come to Britain to fill staff shortages in the NHS.

The Evening Standard reported on Tuesday that at least three government departments – including the Home Office – had urged Downing Street to lift visa quotas temporarily. May turned down the requests.

Up to 100 Indian doctors have reportedly had their applications for tier 2 visas turned down. These are offered to skilled workers from outside the EU with a job offer in Britain; but the number available is limited.

Danny Mortimer, chief executive of NHS Employers, told the BBC recently he had heard of hundreds of doctors being refused visas – and the shortage was affecting patient care.

Asked about the Standard story, the prime minister’s official spokesman told journalists: “It remains essential we have control of the immigration system and it works in the national interest.”

And to add to the above - linky

The Home Office may have falsely accused as many as 7,000 foreign students of faking their proficiency in English and ordered them to leave the country, with some of them saying they were detained and made homeless as a result.

A large majority of the students who were accused of cheating have not been allowed to appeal against the Home Office decision, obtain the evidence against them, or meet officials face-to-face so the quality of their English can be assessed.
These students include those that have attended proper universities not just the scam colleges.

Somehow she's manages to come across as the face of 'shall do no harm', when the truth is couldn't be further.

I think you lot need to shut up.

She is taking a stronger stance on immigration as many people in the UK (both brexiters and otherwise) have been saying for the past few years.

It was never going to be easy and yes we were going to have to turn some people away and so no.

Australia does it all the time, as does America and probably many other countries.

Why bitch bout the UK doing it?

Nah heard someone talking about it on the radio from their own experience and lo-and-behold the FT had a headline about it. In that case the person talking, who is a British citizen, wife was denied citizenship as she couldn't apparently speak English properly though someone was happy for to employ her.

The UK has a education problem, rather than a immigration one. The country is built on migrants, always has been. In breed Daily wail reading Whetherpoon drinking types happy to have cheap labour or experienced professionals come and do the work. There's a reason why the UK is one of the most unproductive countries of the world, laziness personified, yet when someone else is willing to do the work...

When the banks failed, the debt realised, the migrants were an easy target. History repeating.

Can't imagine repeated posting on CUK does much for Germany's productivity figures.
