Originally posted by Jog On View PostDoes it bother you that people believe alternative news over the MSM?
It's a hard life being an investigative journalist, especially in the modern internet era where pay per click dominates. These "alternative news" sources are designed to provoke anger and consternation, by writing "articles" with crude fiery allegories to capture the attention of the reader. This furthers their readership, garners regular viewers, which has the bonus of bringing in advertising revenue and populist recognition. This is what they want. Tommy Robinson is the epitome of this characterization.
Rather than dive head first into the abyss by assuming these words are further proof that alternative news sources are deserving of recognition, for showing the flame of truth in a swamp of filth, instead consider recognizing that there are similarly crude forms of (so called) MSM, such as Fox News, that aim to capture a certain aspect of the readership and viewership who already hold certain viewpoints on the world (or, realistically, Texas) and are, in their own way, caricatures of the multiplicity of the news environment.
By providing advertizing revenue to these alternative news sources, particularly lone wolves, such as Tommy Robinson - who earns most of his money to live from this attention, never forget - you are legitimizing these sources and increasing the problem.
One can believe the USA has appalling foreign indiscretions and horrendous problems in society without believing the excrement sprayed 360o by, for example, Russia and the Kremlin's state-sponsored output of misinformation. Russia is among the best examples of a large country that tells every possible narrative story line during and after an event. This works for the homeland as they can ensure each news reader/viewer at some point hears what they expect to hear from their own chosen official tv/radio/newspaper news source, as they are owned by the state of controlled via Putin's oligarch friends.
Your approach, JogOn, leads credence to this method of news and is seen, quite rightly, as a disgrace by those who value intelligence, integrity and diversity of through based on a solid analytical approach.Last edited by rogerfederer; 30 May 2018, 10:57.Comment

How do you propose the MSM 'win' back the hearts and minds and credibility they appear to have lost?
Because insults and labeling people as [worst_person_ever] doesn't appear to be working. neither does no-platforming."Is someone you don't like allowed to say something you don't like? If that is the case then we have free speech."- Elon MuskComment
