      Since June 2016 there has been, and will continue to be, good and bad economic news. Employment is at record high levels, but productivity is low. Mini builds a new model at Cowley, while Range rover produces one abroad, and so on. There isn't a preponderance of good/bad news on either side. Against that background, the Armageddon foretold by Osborne et al. has signally failed to arrive.

      We can go on interpreting the latest blip of static noise as proof positive of our own views on the Brexit matter, or we can stop boring each other.

      New supermarket opens in my village! Proves I was right all along!

          It is cutting jobs and reducing non-essential spending on travel and IT upgrades to offset the impact of the engine faults.
          If they regard IT upgrades as "non-essential", that doesn't bode well...
          His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...

            I heard on the grapevine that they've cancelled almost all IT projects. Glad I'm no longer there.

            The place is riddled with middle management promoted beyond their levels of competence so the redundancies are going to hurt people with very few other options.

              Better weather brought some much-needed respite to Britain’s struggling retail sector last month as the hottest May on record brought consumers flocking back to the high street.

              The volume of goods sold in shops and online was 1.3% up on April – comfortably beating predictions in the financial markets of a 0.5% increase.

                      It's very lean if it's never used.

                      I used to know a guy (friend of a friend but we went on group holidays together) that worked in one of the engineering companies supplying RR engine parts. He was a very nervous flyer. Same as a guy I know who is a helicopter engineer in the Navy. If they don't have much faith in the flying equipment maybe we shouldn't be so blasé about flying either.
                      Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.
