Expert Systems have been around for decades. Why 'AI' hasn't taken over the customer facing solution has the same answer as why it's taken so long for high street estate agents to be replaced by online alternatives. Technology uptake moves at the pace of the people willing to use it.

Doctors being replaced with 'AI' alternatives will correspond to the oldies dying off.

To theorise what occupations will go through a similar transformation, see what the youngsters are willing to do now and what professions will suffer from it.
Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.

Back room stuff like radiology and blood etc tests are already going that way. To train a radiologist takes years and there are only so many pictures they can view & remember. Give a machine all the data you can get your hands on and they are likely to be better at spotting stuff.

They have a system in prison cells to monitor occupancy & vitals I suspect care homes will get that along with Alexa style communication & control.

Hospital beds will be the same. Why wait for the nurse if you can tap an echo dot and ask for a bedpan etc. If you need help using one then it will arrive at the same time.

I would expect doctors to be augmented by technology soon and replaced in most minor cases over the next 20 years. Now there may be a place for communicating the diagnosis to the patient & providing support but that doesn't need a doctor.
AI is a very long way away from taking a detailed clinical and social history from a distressed patient and family (or even in less fraught circumstances). History taking is an art as well that requires listening and social interaction, knowing when to stay quiet and when to ask a question - and how to ask questions.

AI certainly has a role in decision-making (e.g. recommending investigations and treatments, based on diagnoses, symptoms, events and clinical findings), and this should lead to improved outcomes and efficiencies, but this is only a part of clinical work, and if some tasks are removed from doctors, this occurs within the context of increasing demand on services.

I agree that these are the kind of activities that are more easily automated.

Both the recruitment and estate agency industries are overcrowded and overdue a rationalisation. That's how capitalism works.

This is nothing to do with online agents disrupting the market but the fact that housing market is slowing down massively. When the housing market overheats lot of estate agents pop up hoping to make a quick buck and at some point this needs a correction. I won't shed a tear when they all shut down and in fact most of them will jump into recruitment market

Went with the local one who charged a flat rate, rather than the ones who were charging 1%. Rightmove seems to be the AutoTrader of the house selling world, where everyone looks on there first.
