Barclays plans 2,500 new jobs in Glasgow

Perhaps they realise that Scotland will become an independent country and join the EU.

That'll work well until they want to find an employee who can come to work

    a) Sober
    b) After the hours of 6pm
    c) not impregnated by a relative
    d) not under the influence of hard drugs

but yeah sounds like a great plan.

more likely it makes a cheap call centre. Assuming they can find anyone who's more understandable than Rab C. Nesbitt.

Perhaps they're getting into bed with Yorkshire/Clydesdale/... in which case that's another service downgrade

Surprised at this. I thought offshoring to third world countries was done. I thought middle shoring was the way forward.

Expect more London jobs to flee north of the border. That would be a laugh.

Personally, I like certain parts of Scotland, it's just the natives that need doing away with.

Banks already have large technology centres in Glasgow. Decentralisation has been going on for years, both within the UK and Europe.
London as a hub may eventually lose a dominance, but this to me appears to be a natural progression..

It's no different to the US model of having the front office in New York and the back office systems and staff at a cheaper location on their east coast, like North Carolina. Keeping back and front office locations in the same time zone and country provides far better value than offshoring to somewhere 5 or more hours away.
