    Contractors Advocacy Group

Being fairly new to contracting, it appears to me that we have to individually fight our battles. This forum is good for advise and tips, but that is all.

I think contractors need to have something like a union (note: like a union, but not a union). Something akin to the Guilds of old. A body through which we can present a united front to government agencies likes of HMRC on the subject of IR35 or force the recruitment industry to adopt some kind of self-regulation or even have a regular review of recruiters published, by contractors or engaging in Class Action Suits/Group Litigation Orders on behalf of members.

I know that such things as collective wage bargaining is not possible for contractors. But surely if such a group/scheme existed one could have access to better legal services and similar through economies of scale.

Perhaps something already exists, if so can someone let me know.

      ADVICE

I'm sure IPSE is mention in that advice very regularly so and is all over the IR35 pages so a bit of a read of that advice would have helped.

Would it not have been wise to check if there is first before asking? If you type in contractor union IPSE appears as the third result.

Might want to spend 2 seconds checking which part of the forums you are posting in as well. A cursory glance at the current topics in General should have given you a clue.

Must have felt really good, being all superior over the new guy. Kudos to you.

If you must know I ran a general search and the keywords " contractor union" in the search field and most of the results were EU and Brexit related. I'd never heard of IPSE before @cojack mentioned it.

You're obviously more adept at navigating this interface and if it makes you feel good to belittle someone asking a question in a community forum, then I bow to your superior intellect.

Doesn't bother me. It's not that you are new, just, a lazy post is a lazy post.

Just to be clear I meant a search in Google/Bing... but..
If you have a look at the thread below it describes how to search the forums properly as the one in the main forum is a bit pants.

True enough but this is General. It's earned it's title.

Community forums also tend to have a similar etiquette. Here is the post explain it on here.

Take a chill pill. You've posted in General and getting a bit of a ribbing. Happened to us all.

Let's start again shall we? Can you bleed a radiator?

You are talking about a poster of the year. Who has helped hundreds, if not thousands, of contractors. He has helped me personally.

Occasionally he is terse and asks people to do some research. Is that so wrong?

Apologies to NLUK who will be embarrassed by this.
