      Wrong again

Who gets to decide whether and when to hold a border poll?
The UK Government has the power to call a referendum in Northern Ireland.

The Good Friday Agreement states that "the Secretary of State" should call a referendum "‘if at any time it appears likely to him that a majority of those voting would express a wish that Northern Ireland should cease to be part of the United Kingdom and form part of a united Ireland."

The Secretary of State would do this by laying before Parliament an Order in Council, specifying the details of the poll and the date on which it will be held.

In the Republic of Ireland, reunification would require a constitutional amendment. This would require legislation to be passed by both chambers of Parliament, before it was put to the people in a referendum.

In the event that either part of Ireland voted against reunification, another poll cannot be held within seven years.

Won't be long now. The Scottish Government has done everything to save the UK from Brexit including getting a ruling that A50 can be revoked.

        Sunday Times Poll

A majority of Scots believe Scottish independence would be better for the country than staying in the UK after Brexit, a new poll reveals.

The Panelbase survey of 1,028 voters for The Sunday Times Scotland and LBC, before a crucial Commons vote on Theresa May’s withdrawal deal, found that more believe leaving the EU will be bad for Scotland than not.

Scottish independence would be better than a no-deal Brexit, say 59%, with 41% disagreeing. While 53% say independence would benefit the country more than staying in the UK but outside the EU under a negotiated Brexit deal, 47% take the opposite view.

Depends how you define long. Is 40 years long?

            2019.

The UK government has challenged the Scottish court ruling on the consent motion passed in the Scottish Parliament. This in itself breached the Act of Union 1707 in which case the union can be dissolved without the need for a referendum. I believe a ruling is due tomorrow.

              Please let it be so.

The alternative is to let the whole of the UK vote. It will be a landslide.

Which is very odd given the contribution Scots have given to Scientific progress over the last 150 years.

All the promises in 2014 have not been kept so it's only right we look at Independence again.

One of the biggest lies was that oil was running out and would be finished within 5 years. This is before we can drill at the west coast which we can't do at the moment because of the nuclear subs. Once we get rid of them then we're good to go.

We're all sure it will be so. Last time we started at 26% and got to 45% after the campaign. The latest Panelbase poll says we are at 47% (I think its more) so once Brexit hits and we have a campaign to show the promises from 2014 were broken and that Project Fear was just lies we will get a lot more.

Lots of work going on in the background to set up a Scottish Investment Bank and a Scottish Stock Exchange too and making business links with other countries to prepare for Independence.

In what way was that first referendum 'deciding to leave'?
What's up having a problem digesting the facts? Rejection of the Lisbon treaty would have triggered A50. The EU bribed the Irish to stay, and they had a second referendum. Sound familiar? Remember some of us have not wanted to be members for over 40 years, so a little bedwetting now from the hard of thinking is a small price to pay.
