ring round a few automatic gearbox specialists

they can often offer refurbished parts for a lot less than you would think, and fit too

even if you have to get it taken to one on the back of a trailer it can be worthwhile

Less about the mileage really, it's 9 years old and stuff will start to fail - especially electronics etc. I've got a slightly older runabout and despite being fairly low mileage (Think it's about 80k) it's just starting to get a little bit irritating with stuff failing.

Mind you, an automatic Ford Galaxy. I think there's a UN Convention against stuff like that.

PC, forget any concept of cheap but I've used these guys for short term leases:

Long & Short Term Car Leasing | Autohorn Fleet Services

    Think it was this division:

Short Term Car Leasing Offers | Flexed Car Leasing

What sort of price we talking for month at a time?

Currently got a hire car which was a pretty good ideal. Admitedly, a tulipey little peugeot but it goes from A to B and its only 25 mins drive to client so will do, but it was £90 for 8 days. Not bad.

Had a bigger car off the AA for 3 days for free with enterprise but that was more pricey to continue with. I even asked them for a cheaper smaller car for 8 days and they said £190. I pointed out that europcar 10 mins walk away was £90 for same car and they just shrugged their shoulders. Stupid way to do business....

Think the cheaper stuff is in the world of £350pcm, so similar ballpack to your current deal. They used to sting you a bit on delivery and that's what put me off them in the end, but they're only a small-ish company so you can have a chat with them.

    £350 a month.

How about £365 for life? (well as long as it runs. If you get 3 months it's a bargain)

you can get a lease car on a 1 year lease... which even if you only use it for part of the year can often beat hire car prices

    Ah.

Back in the mists of time when the forum was a fun place to be rather than stacked to the gunwales with fecking snowflakes.

Enterprise car club, if you have one near by, look good for ad-hoc hire.
