A small annoyance but worth it. The seats in the 123 were wide, spacious and comfortable. The seats on the SW trains are worse than on London buses. First class, you get the same seats but coloured blue.

Demand increased - those old trains would not have coped, ticket prices would have to be even higher than they are now, which is already crazy high
Sad news I have to say - I've often diverted a bit north to Reading in order to get one into London - only 22 minutes at a top speed of 125mph. And as a boy I used to time the quarter-mile posts to ensure it was keeping the correct speed (3600/(125*4)) = 7.2 seconds
Still they've never been quite the same since they replaced the screaming Vanenta engines with quieter MTU ones
