Russia's RT banned from UK media freedom conference

Russia's RT and Sputnik news agencies have been banned from attending a conference on media freedom in London for playing an "active role in spreading disinformation".

Around 60 ministers and 1,000 reporters and members of civil society are due to attend the event this week.
But the UK Foreign Office refused accreditation to both RT and Sputnik.

The Russian Embassy called the decision "direct politically motivated discrimination".

About fooking time they got banned from operating in the UK - this would obviously get BBC banned in Russia, but the damage liars from Rt cause is far worse than any good BBBC can do by operating inside Russia

All news agencies spread disinformation including the BBC. In the BBC case normally its what they leave out rather than put in but their opinions can sometimes be dodgy. Case in point is last week when the headline news for three days was that some Tory voters got more than one voting card but there was nowt about the ongoing EU Switzerland spat and other newsworthy topics

I read Sputnik and other news outlets including the BBC just to get the big picture because none are capable of providing it themselves. Yes there's a lot of crap but getting multiple views helps clear some of that fog

They are not news agencies they are Kremlin state propaganda outlets. So perfectly normal they were banned from that conference

Leaving out is not disinformation, especially if there are clear sensible rules on why certain things don't get reported by reputable fact checking organisation such as BBC.

Wonder how soon it will be before they are banned altogether...

Shame on them for reporting stuff like this

Other sites will still syndicate the information though - until they get banned as well.

I suppose what we don't know can't hurt us can it?

Good example of fake news, well spotted.

The problem is the number of people who fall for it

What's fake about this piece of news? (With proof and sources)

              Is it all a fabrication?

To be fair, it was barely newsworthy in Switzerland.

Like the BBC 'news' report on Monday about the Greek election closing with the propagandist (er, reporter) saying that the end of Greece's experiment with populism (Syriza) and return to an establishment government sends a message to the US and the UK?

He might have had a point or he might not, but it was sheer opinion / editorialising, not fact-checked news. And the BBC does this kind of stuff all the time.

And leaving things out certainly can be disinformation.

It was in the Tägliche Post, on the same page as "EU to ban holes in cheese" and "EU to ban yodelling and health and safety grounds"
