    Anyone been in the army?

Bit worrying that frontline combat units are operating as much as 40% below strength:

UK army combat units 40% below strength as recruitment plummets | UK news | The Guardian

    Bit puzzled by one paragraph

Experts told the Guardian the problem was not just with recruitment, but with retention. They said soldiers were being required to undertake repetitive training exercises with no other purpose than to keep them busy, which could have a negative effect on morale.
So what exactly have soldiers always done when there's no wars on? Maybe the forces should be responsible for other tasks like firefighting or policing during peacetime. A sudden shortage of those duties during a major war would be the least of our problems.

          We need a good war.

Should we kick off with France, Germany or Spain? Or try our luck with someone new?

France. We'd have to convince them it was 1966.

Seeing as the current parliamentary session is the longest since the Long Parliament of 1646 to 1660, and the government is gearing up to defy the will of Parliament, a rerun of the Civil War would be a giggle.

Ireland. It also resolves one of the issues with *rexit.
