        True, not sure we need the forces we used to when we had an empire. A major war involving the UK seems unlikely without a few years of warning that give us time to rebuild our forces.

        On the other hand, we are in NATO so have to contribute proportionally if we expect support in a major future war. Do we even have the forces we need for relatively minor and more likely conflicts. What if the Falklands pops up again? Recall we had some significant shortfalls last time.

        PS Bring back Dad's army. I'd like the chance to shoot a few people.

            Also, I can't see a country that could or would attack us, so not sure a large army is needed.

            Willing to be educated on this though.
