British Army under fire for including Asians in Black History Month | News | The Times

The British Army has been criticised on social media for stating that Black History Month has “expanded to include the history of Asian people”.
The army tweeted that it would be recognising its partnership with the Indian Army as part of the occasion, celebrated during October, but faced a backlash from observers who felt that the inclusion of other ethnic minorities “watered down” the contribution made by black servicemen and women.

The British Army should only be celebrating British History Month (maybe six to fit it all in).

I think the army made a mistake but probably had good intentions.

Black History Month originated in the USA and was created to remember achievements of people specifically of black African origin rather than just non-white people. It was also to encourage people to learn about their history that typically wasn't covered in schools in the US at the time. It was especially pertinent given the history of slavery in the US and as time has gone on, it seems to have evolved in other countries like the UK.

What about the history of slavery in Africa?

You know the African slave trade that had been going on for 2000+ years before the Americans decided to buy some slaves from the official African slave markets?

Or do we not talk about that and pretend slavery was invented by America?

What about the Barbary raids on the UK, are we allowed to mention?

For over 300 years, the coastlines of the south west of England were at the mercy of Barbary pirates (corsairs) from the coast of North Africa, based mainly in the ports of Algiers, Tunis and Tripoli.
In August 1625 corsairs raided Mount’s Bay, Cornwall, capturing 60 men, women and children and taking them into slavery. In 1626 St Keverne was repeatedly attacked, and boats out of Looe, Penzance, Mousehole and other Cornish ports were boarded, their crews taken captive and the empty ships left to drift. It was feared that there were around 60 Barbary men-of-war prowling the Devon and Cornish coasts and attacks were now occurring almost daily.

Indeed here is an interesting read on the Atlantic Slave Trade.

    Atlantic slave trade - Wikipedia

The other interesting thing to note is that the white man did not force anyone into slavery they bought them from the ancient and traditional slave markets.

You appear offended that people are offended. Don't worry about it. There is always someone who will moan about something.
