    Now, 16 year olds are children at school. In which case, why not give the vote to 5 year olds?

      That amendment has been ditched. HTF did they ever think they were going to update the electoral register given the timescale?

                British Army soldiers can sign up at the age of 16 but they cannot be sent to fight in a war zone or engage in a hostile situation until the age of 18.
