Having hayfever and/or asthma in the 60s/70s made one fairly unusual.

While the hayfever season seemed to last from the end of May to the middle of July.

These days, in my case, it starts sometime in January and goes relentlessly all the way to fecking August.

We just need to import some Septic ragweed & it could go all the way to October.

Plus food allergies seem to be increasing endlessly and much more seriously, killing people quite regularly.

The one I couldn't get over was the kid who died when someone threw a piece of cheese at him.

Might it be down to the lack of exposure to sufficient dirt during infancy making the immune system over vigilant for the wrong sort of things?
    When the fun stops, STOP.

      Could be.
Scoots still says that Apr 2020 didn't mark the start of a new stock bull market.

it’s been blamed on bleach. We clean every surface with bacteria killing stuff. Luckily my house is a pigsty and the kids don’t have any allergies.

I agree with you on this one. There's been studies that show that kids who live with pets in their first year of life have better immune systems.

Similarly it's been shown that the eldest child is more likely to suffer allergies - the younger siblings having more exposure to germs from having an older sibling.

Another contributing factor may be the "hygiene hypothesis:" in preparing for their firstborn to come home, parents may hyper-sterilize their environments. By the time babies 2 and 3 come around, there are more germs, and the younger siblings may develop stronger immune systems.

It's cos Noel Edmunds stopped presenting Swap Shop after the 70's ended, and went on to other shows that were crappy - the nation's mental health too a dive from then onwards..

Not in Japan (at least not until the drug companies realised they had a market there).

I do remember kids dying as a result of "choking on a peanut". Of course that was allergy. And I'd guess that in the 70s, kids with severe allergies just died.

I think it's because in the 70's we had no real processed food, trans fats, additives or E numbers. Most veg was 'organic'. No meat pumped full of hormones to make the animals grow quicker etc. Alcohol was much more expensive. I think diet & lifestyle is to blame for a LOT more than people think.

We didn't have the media bombarding us with perfect images, mobile phones, gaming, the internet, social media, online bullying, access to free porn. It's no wonder young people especially suffer anxiety with all that going on.
