Longest I came across was during my perm days and a guy had been there 13 years; by the time he left it must have been 15 odd years. It was rumoured this guy was a multi-millionaire, his day rate was something like £1,200 and that was 10 years ago.

Personally, nearly all my gigs are around 9-12 months. I struggle to think of staying anywhere 2 years never mind 15.

I knew a couple of people like this, back in the mid-2000s at a bank in the City. They would most certainly have been considered to be within IR35 and I learned a lot (on how a contractor shouldn't work) from watching their work pattern. Banks were (still are?) the worst for IR35: they used to demand everyone be in, bums-on-seats, every day, managed and slotted into team structures.

Anyway, these 2 guys must have been there 15+ years on £1200/day. Can't blame them for hanging around on that rate.

I also did that once. I ended up working with MF. You can probably work out the rest...

I think my longest stint must be about 3 years, however I am up to invoice #90 with my current client which means I've done 7.5 years with them in total but over at least 3 stints.

17 years with one client. They offered to double my rate to stop me leaving :-)

6 years with the next client.

Where do I collect my prize?

Is this entire thread just a honeypot planted by the the revenue? 17 years back taxes would be most unpleasant, I think I’d go for the Ronnie Biggs option.
