This three parter series of articles explains the governments approach and reasoning rather well.

    Proves rather uncomfortable reading, unfortunately.

It's people like you who are talking the country into a public health crisis. IF everyone showed some stiff upper lip and dosed up with Lemsip, it would all be fine.

Instead of all these new ventilators for the new hospital they are building - why not increase the pressure of the air in the building, 1/3 over ground pressure should be manageable, and double the oxygen content of the environment?

            Doesn't manage need for intubation.
Doesn't manage need for higher fractional inspired oxygen%.
            Fire risk?
            Engineering challenge.
            Oxygen supply chain?

Plus why the **** anybody expected Communist party to be honest? There was enough info read between the lines, it's just nobody gave a fook hoping somebody else will do all the work (like it was with first SARS, MERS).

Fooking incompenent fooks who won't have stockpile if PPEs always ready for the unknown, testing equipment ready to roll out at moments notice - all that would have cost fook all compared to current crisis, and it's not like in PANDEMIC mode supply chains could have been expected to hold, especially as many of them are in China.
Very much with AtW on this one. You cannot trust anything offical that comes out of China. They're funding the WHO so you cannot trust them either. A report back on 21st Jan I think it was stated that there was very little global risk and that the virus showed no signs of being passed from human to human easily!

However, Mark, are the government supposed to take action based on social media posts from mainland China instead? I've seen some of the videos and it looks like the CCP have used the outbreak as an excuse to make some dissidents disappear. Given we're a free country (allegedly) I'm not sure what action could be taken based on that. Yes, lockdown. But, and as Sir Mix-a-Lot said it's a big but.... China is a communist state. Going to complete lockdown there is easier because people aren't used to the same freedoms anyway. You've got idiots here and in America that think the rules don't apply to them and are having parties or playing football in parks still.

ooh... precepts. Reminds me, what happened to our resident historian Gibbon. Is he still about?
