Unfortunately, this costs money -- it is a sunk cost with little prospect of a return on this investment in the medium, or even long-term -- and no-one is willing to pay. It's far easier to frame the discussion as one of personal choice and to look away.

Generally speaking, a liberal's default is to legitimise sex work and tax it, but commoditising women's' bodies and dignity isn't something that a civilised society should be endorsing.

    Other opinions are available.

    * No, not all prostitutes have mental health issues.
** No, not all prostitutes suffer from drug or alcohol addiction.

Your arguments apply to many areas though. Take homelessness. Providing beds is easy.

Looking at the current crisis, many people are cheesed off at the amount of money it is costing. It would be far cheaper for everyone to carry on as before and give opiates to those who are critically ill. I think if I had lost my job I might agree. Well provbably not. It does not mean it is the right thing.

Personally, I think the issue here is difference between libido of men and women. The sooner sex robots are freely available the better.

One thing I should add is that if prostitution is criminalised then both men and women should be breaking the law instead of just the women.

Ergo, your wife was more attractive than you or younger.

All good points. But I would take exception to one: "The sooner sex robots are freely available the better."

Where does one draw the line? Should child-sized sex-bots be readily available to those that are so inclined? Child-sized sex-dolls are already available. Further, should sentience be limited for these milking-machines?

This isn't meant to be a criticism; it's an observation on the moral maze in which we will shortly find ourselves.

Another interesting observation would be that as soon as humanity -- and it is mostly men in these industries at the moment -- invented the robot its collective ingenuity lead to two divergent positions: can it carry guns? And can I **** it?

A lot of the women work in the sex industry because they couldn't earn anywhere near the same money in any other industry with the level of qualifications they have. I think there's probably a distinction to be drawn between street walkers and those in massage parlours/escort businesses - by that I'm not talking about the human trafficking element, much more complex an issue and a bit of a tangent.

Similarly for homeless people, there are those that don't want a fixed abode and want to remain off grid. Whether they have mental health issues or not is something else. One thing that we are definitely abysmal at as a nation is rehabilitation of ex-forces staff who have served tours of duty into "normal" society.

                And therein lies the rub.

I agree with your other points.
