Default Digital contact tracing will fail unless privacy is respected, experts warn

Digital contact tracing will fail unless governments build the technology in a way that respects user privacy, a group of “nearly 300 experts have warned.

If public health bodies like the NHS build centralised contact tracing apps that transmit superfluous data they will struggle to win the trust of enough citizens to ensure the activity is a success, the experts say.

The joint letter, signed by academics from 26 countries worldwide, highlights the potential that digital contact tracing has in helping prevent a resurgence of Covid-19 as countries come out of lockdown, but cautions that the effectiveness is no excuse for riding roughshod over privacy protections – and is, in fact, closely entwined with them.”

FFS life as we it failed and it might be permanent if we don’t get this app working for 99,99% of people and FAST - with ALL data needed for instant algo based contact tracing - that means nutters who refuse to install it will have to stay at home and observe their personal liberties there.

Getting a smart phone is preferable option to crematorium or mass grave.

Services in re-opened economy should be refused to those who can’t validate on entry 14 days of having run app and app showing Green light (meaning wasn’t around traced infected), it’s what China did very effectively - we’ll probably see dedicated devices for that purpose soon, harder to tamper with and probably will be better battery life.

Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

I agree relentless monitoring, contact tracing, testing and quarantining the ill are the only ways to leave lockdown and prevent a resurgence of the virus.
But such things are beyond the competence of a UK government.
    Hard Brexit now!

    Or:

University students could be recruited to help carry out Covid-19 surveillance in Wales once the lockdown is lifted, the Welsh first minister has said.Mark Drakeford said that after the lockdown ends it is inevitable there will be flare-ups of the virus and plans are being drawn up to carry out surveillance in the community.
Drakeford said public health officials and council officers would be used but it was clear it would need to recruit people such as students to help out.
