PPE shortages are squarely on the shoulders of NHS (mis)management. Even now the pen pushers are saying that certain supplies of PPE are of unknown quality as they haven't gone through the approval process, so the suppliers are sending it abroad.
Though now so many are behind the PR "NHS we love you" bollox () the government can't point the finger at them and point out their ongoing failings.Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.Comment

The stockpile that we had before this pandemic was explicitly designed in accordance with the advice from the scientific advisers the government has - Nervtag (the new and emerging respiratory virus threats advisory group) - and of course it was specifically for a flu pandemic.“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment

The "Exercise Cygnus" thing just seems to be a real red herring of how well it was known, or what importance it was given up the chain to anyone in government. How many other other modelling scenarios for a dozen different apocalypses are performed and not followed up on every year, every month even?
Do we have an "Operation" for a Solar flare?
Volcanic Eruption?
National Grid outage from Terrorism?
Russians annexing the town of Salisbury?
Are we stockpiling duracells & Sun cream & anti polonium agents?
In any case, it seems it was the role of the NHS leadership to ensure this particular model was prepared for, by their own admission:
