Because one thing that will unite the British people is sticking to the rules. It's ingrained - you see it in well-ordered bus queues. People are prepared to accept that rules themselves may not be entirely equitable (some people have access to private gardens and some are stuck indoors). But what people won't tolerate is the people who make the rules breaking them.

Johnson is an even bigger idiot than he looks to back Cummings.

Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Yes but, if he got rid of Cummings, who would do the work of Prime Minister?

I could not dig; I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                Mine angry and defrauded young?

                Seems about right....

                  In the Telegraph.

Boris Johnson's chief adviser Dominic Cummings will give a public statement and take questions over his trip to Durham today, Number 10 has confirmed.

The Prime Minister's right hand man is due to speak at 3pm, ahead of the daily press conference from Downing Street.

However the unusual decision for an adviser to take questions on his own actions comes amid growing pressure for him to resign. Some 20 Tory MPs have called for him to go, amid fears the scandal is harming the Government and may risk ongoing adherence to the lockdown.

Special advisers must not take public part in political controversy, through any form of statement whether in speeches or letters to the press, or in books, social media, articles or leaflets.
They must observe discretion and express comment with moderation, avoiding personal attacks, and would not normally speak in public for their Minister or the Department.
