Apparently no, they are under no obligation to pay you if it is stipulated in the contract. As my friend from another company said, their contracts come with that as well... could be the brexit benefit everyone is expecting. No red tape, employment at will.
There was some funny business with signing to opt out of 48h european legislation, something with the sick days but at that point was too annoyed to bother getting into/
I know that you don’t have many rights in the first two years anyway so would have been pointless to start a fight and loose what appeared a decent role anyway.

    I was wrong.

Was already schedule for a performance review, second day in the role. Not even freeking joking about this...
They knew how to push all the right buttons with me.

Shouldn't have propositioned the HR lady first thing.

          A whole day?

Goodness me, I've walked after a morning.

One was a tulipty permie job in Newport, the other was a tulipty contract with embedded code full of Magick Numbers.
          When the fun stops, STOP.

Mate of mine managed 45 minutes (including break) at the Golden Arches, one of his proudest moments

Knowing him he tried to shag the customers, he was a bit of a hound.

                  Badly played sir

You should have said you had covid19 symptoms and gone of sick for 4 weeks

When contacted tell them you are still sick, then mention mental health issues and get paid for next 3 months while looking for new role

tbh I've lost it after having the performance review.

That would have been a great idea but...:
you will not be eligible to receive Company Sick Pay in respect of absence:
                    (1) during the Probationary Period (if applicable to you); or
It gets better the more you read into it...
