When the agent knows hes gonna struggle on this one

"I'm recruiting a Linux SysAdmin for a 12 month FTC in Swansea. You'd be part of a team responsible for developing my client’s Platform-as-a-Service for research organisations. They are also contributing towards Covid-19 research. Up to £39,000."

Good angle to try - "you're doing something for society"

Never mind the fact that 12 month FTC for £39K is complete tulipe.
I do often wonder what sort of candidates they get for these sort of roles?

Even a keyboard swapper like me does better than this. I'd say going rate for inside IR35 contract for these sort of skills is at least double this.

Wonder what is worse... FTC that you know it ends on a certain date but with a bit more rights in between or a perm role with limited to no rights that you can get fired anytime.
But that is definitely a lemon. Twice the salary, rate equivalent outside role and maybe some people could consider it...

None suitable, so then they can get a visa for an offshore resource. (Now that they have "evidence" to give the Home office that they cannot resource from the UK workforce)

This is an advert for Infosys/wipro to provide cheap resources. Who knows they will engage in a bidding war and bring the costs down.

And in the teeth of a massive unemployment shock. 39k p.a. is about 75th centile.

Even if you work remotely, you'd still feel strange that your data VPNed from there.

Neah, the gov won't let that happen. Think people have started to wise up and they'll start going after the establishment.
They'll throw bulltulip jobs at them, COVID tracers at 27£/h, brexit paper pushers looking after imports etc...

Otherwise you'll get plenty of these erected:
