But the US culture is infinitely more racist and more deeply embedded than anything over here. Trying to equate the two is the real nonsense.

People are entitled to hold opinions. It happens all the time. THese do not constitute a "prosecution and sentence in the mind". He's still getting a prosecution and fair trial , no matter what people think.

Strange I thought the Grand Jury was a form of prosecution? I think it is slightly equivalent to our CPS yet specifically set up with checks to prosecute civil employees with the advantage the jury members are independent unlike the CPS who have to work with the Police other officials..

The only requirement is that probable cause exists to support criminal charges against the accused person. In essence, the grand juror must feel there is enough evidence against the person to proceed to trial. It is a very low standard. You could have one witness, a victim, come in and testify without any corroborating physical evidence and get an indictment. That is rare but it does occur in some cases of sexual assault with victims who don’t approach authorities until many years after an incident.

I say this as a non-white person who has faced racism.

There is an etiquette and morality when it comes to protesting. Even violence has some rules. Those who piss on public property in that way or who vandalise deserve to be smashed in the head with a blunt instrument repeatedly until they die (regardless of their colour). They are not innocent victims of police aggression like George Floyd.
