Don't claim to be an economics expert but it seems sensible to spend money on trying to get businesses going again, rather than let them fold and then spend at least as much, probably far more, on welfare payments to the unemployed for years to come. There are serious secondary effects of lack of employment prospects too, rise in mental health problems, people turning to crime etc.

We shall see, but I think these government initiatives are the best approach.

Well what a load of old crap this summer statement was.

The govt once again completely miss the plot.

How about removing employer NI so that employees costs fall. Why **** about with stamp duty on property, utterly pointless to boost employment.

How about slashing business rates ffs?

Come back Gordon Brown, you are a genius compared to these s

Looks like 3% “additional rate” stamp duty for second houses is still due, Tory con as usual.

Buying a house is a luxury right now, much more sensible to rent in short term

Also - £ 10 discount on meals only if you eat in, they are really trying to pack people for a month to get to herd immunity, no VAT discount on booze too - so no real help to pubs

Tory con for sure, and malicious one at that - get prepped for new lockdown in October (if not earlier)
