I don't remember Government ever openly admitting this, although "Protect NHS" slogan was pretty telling. At the time NHS was suffering from PPE shortages and it was almost impossible for regular customers to buy respirators and masks online as all stock was reserved for NHS.

See for example this article from APRIL:

"Coronavirus could be 'wiped out' if 80 to 90% of Britons wear effective DIY masks, claims Oxford University health chief as government is warned making them compulsory for public risks NHS supplies"

Wore a mask for a couple of hours today - public transport, visit it to doctor's then to chemist's. Wasn't particular uncomfortable - you kind of forget about after a while.

In April in Germany only one town mandated masks and the rate of infection dropped dramatically compared to everywhere else.

                Seems to work.

Standard disclaimer, to prevent Mor Ons sueing them if they said otherwise.

WTF people still discussing about, this was all tested - masks reduce the distance cough can travel - that's proven fact -

See how a mask affects how a cough travels - CNN Video

You don't get 100% protection obviously from simple masks, but if everybody was wearing them it would REDUCE spread meaningfully, does not matter if it's 10% or 50% - that will be determined later, right now we just need to do everything we can do beat that virus.

Yes, but did those masks have a 100% guarantee that they will work?
