    VAT

“ McDonald’s is cutting 20p off the cost of a Big Mac and 40p off a Happy Meal at most of its restaurants, while Nando's is lowering the price of a quarter Peri-Peri chicken from £4.25 to £3.70.

However, many of the price reductions are significantly smaller than the reduction in VAT, which has been cut from 20 per cent to 5 per cent, and many hospitality businesses have yet to announce price cuts at all.”

Where is the Mor On who advocated virtues of VAT cuts?

I don't think it was to save punters money, but to make companies more profit.

      At taxpayer expenses.

And then increase taxes on taxpayers to make up for it.

Seems "fair" as the govt like to say.

Fair would have been to increase CGT on newly purchased assets (dates easily tracked), but keep old rate on assets people bought a while ago (when CGT played a role for investment decision).

Where are those people who hate retrospective legislation?

If those fookers wanted to give businesses extra margin they could have just done VAT refund instead of pittining businesses against their customers demanding full pass on

Funny how the government can find the money to subsidise people eating out yet it takes a footballer to make them find the money to feed people who actually need feeding
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

The only excuse is that it is different government departments.

Or equally to reduce their losses. Not passing the cost on might be what is needed to survive.

McD'd IIRC is a franchise business. They have to have a bigger profit margin that when a company is in charge of financing and running stores.

Boris’s supposed fight against obesity might cost McD’s dearly - 50% VAT on junk food, that would teach ‘em.
