Parents win battle to name their son LUCIFER after registrar tried to ban it saying the boy ‘wouldn’t succeed in life’

    • Dan and Mandy Sheldon travelled to their register office to call their son Lucifer
    • A registrar in Chesterfield objected to the idea, warning: 'He'll never get a job'
    • The name, which is often used to refer to the devil, is banned in New Zealand
I wonder if they will raise it as non binary?

Struggling to see why a story based on a family in Chesterfield focusses so much on New Zealand?

They banned the name in our ex half way house New Zealand. They didn't have any stories about eating less and doing Pilates is good for you from our Australian friends so they nodded to the Kiwis?

They are probably relating to Lucifers first incarnation as one of the most beautiful angels and leader of the choir of angels etc etc... which people tend to forget. Typical humans just see the bad in everything huh...

To be fair, I'd rather someone called Lucifer than naming your kid some fancy mis-spelt name because it's cool. My other have has three Isobels in her class all spelt differently. Having name that you have to spell out everytime someone takes it is a right pain in the ******* arse and wouldn't bestow it on anyone. It's certainly not cool for the kid for the rest of it's life.

It's a cruel name, the lad is just going to be called Lucy in school.
