    Schools reopening

Can only be a good thing:

...education secretary Gavin Williamson, who has said that the government’s plan to accelerate school reopening has been guided by advice that coronavirus is unlikely to spread in the classroom.

In a statement, Williamson said that the “latest research... one of the largest studies on the coronavirus in schools in the world” - believed to be a reference to a Public Health England report looking at 20,000 pupils and teachers in 100 schools across England at the end of the summer term- has shown that makes it clear “there is little evidence that the virus is transmitted at school”.
    Or is it:

"Studies on this question give a mixed picture. One analysis, in the Lancet Infectious Diseases, of households with confirmed Covid-19 in Shenzhen, China, found that children younger than ten were just as likely as adults to get infected. However, there is other evidence from South Korea, Italy and Iceland suggesting lower infection rates among children. Some of the difference could also be down to differences in social mixing."

Kids at school can and will get infected sooner or later. We will see teachers wearing respirators. If govt fails to significantly improve the test&trace system, there will be a nasty 2nd wave. Schools will probably stay open no matter what.

Teachers should be offered PPE. In some schools, where that may be disconcerting for the students, it should be up to the teachers' discretion and evaluation of the risk. Older students, who are able to, should also wear masks at the very least while in class.

Schooling needs to continue. Too many children will fall behind if schools don't reopen.

This is the problem in the western world right here. Who cares if it's disconcerting. Children need to not be babied so much and learn to deal with conflict and not just avoid it constantly. Dont put teachers at risk because it could cause a few kids anxiety.

Israel reopened their schools, and there was a big uptick in cases. The US is finding the same. However several European countries have not found any increase - Switzerland, Netherlands...

I think we've heard that before, many times this year

Maybe they're taking more precautions than the UK:

If many of the schools had not treated it as a big holiday for the teachers and failed none key worker children so poorly I would have had some sympathy for them, but they did and I don't.
