The UK has hordes of foreign tourists. You of all people, living in Kensington, should know that.

So if there must be tax rises, the Government should somehow ensure we are craftily picking tourists' pockets as much as possible.

Not at the moment and for the foreseeable future.

Plus there will be an issue with the number of international students we will have.

An earlier lockdown or at least one where people breaking "rules" were properly held to account, would have helped in protecting these.

I haven't noticed huge swathes of tourists about these parts of late. Maybe they'll come back but not soon enough for the coffers to be sufficiently refilled.

          Seems fair enough to me.

I always thought there was no magic money tree, but it seems that there was - something's got to give, and corp tax seems better than a lot of options. And the fear of businesses upping roots and relocating has gotta be reduced given that most countries are in the same boat.

Difference being we've got the brexit fiasco too...

They need to tax packaging. That will get something back from the Amazon and ASOS type online retailers.

              pay your bit.
My problem is I didn't gain from any handouts, furlough, eat out thing, or anything. So why am I paying my bit?

That said tax rises were inevitable and someone will complain whatever they do.

Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Is it less than income tax now? To pay a dividend you have to pay corporation tax and vat first, so doesn't the total come to more than income tax already ( for people not in the 60% income tax band ).

Short for value added tax. As a finance type contractor the government get 20% since investment banks can’t claim it back. Then they get my corporation tax and then dividend tax.

It all adds up to more than income tax as far as I can tell.
