Exactly. Those of us who have benefited least (or not at all) shouldn't have to pay a higher share of the claw-back.
The self employed were always going to get it worse, as we can only tut, whereas the big boys have their lobbyists and friendly ministers to turn to.

Don't forget to complain about not benefiting from any other public services you don't use! Maybe we should move to a consumption model of taxation. All those ill people who need NHS services pay for it and all the healthy people pay nothing. Similarly, if you needed a bail out or wanted a discounted dinner, you pay extra in taxes but those that didn't, don't.

What a wonderful idea - You'd see more sudden miracle cures than Jesus made by the Lake of Galilee, as all the hypochondriacs hobbling into outpatients with a slightly strained knee, and hordes of health tourist parasites, could no longer clog up the NHS at our expense!

Yup.

You pay into a collective pot and expect to draw down on it when you need it. If you're lucky enough to never need it, your contribution has gone to help someone else.

To say "I didn't benefit from such and such so why should I pay for it" is a really selfish attitude.

The management of said pot is a wholly different topic. I'm just talking about the principle.

USA spends a huge amount on government funded healthcare, so it's not a good example of what happens if everyone has to pay their own healthcare costs.
