So from everything said so far, EE & Plusnet is pretty much same infrastructure as BT and the provider aspect is merely a branding exercise from the same company.
At the moment we have fibre to cabinet and copper to house and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I could call BT up and ask for a price match though I doubt they will go as low as £27.Comment

FYI: I had Virgin Media installed yesterday and there's a £50 off "refer a friend"* offer. Drop me a PM if you're interested.

Switched from BT to Sky about 12 months ago ... we do take various TV services too, but even though we were loyal BT customers and been with them for 5 years it was way cheaper to go with Sky .... for the same price we managed to add on Sky movies and Sky Sports (the wife loves the darts!) - after 24 months the price will rise but then I'll drop movies and/or sports and still be way cheaper than BT.I am what I drink, and I'm a bitter manComment

I'm pretty sure Vodafone have their own kit rather than being an openreach reseller. I have just checked them for my own area and can get 900MB for £42 a month.Make Mercia Great Again!Comment

It is important to also admit that I have never had a problem with the line/service in 10yrs. I don't think I have noticed any throttling in their service either.
Looks like there are other players on the market looking at comparison sites. Plusnet & EE are offering £27 with a few other companies just slightly higher.
Any advice on the 2 mentioned providers that I should be aware of?. Will broadband reliability be the same considering its just a change in provider?
