Dreadful article let's dispel some myths in this anti contractor environment

Seems to be quite a lot of contradictions with Worty, works 50 weeks a year, now wait 2 days a week.

Nope, no contradiction. As others on here know I'm currently a full time carer for my sick wife so I only work 2 days a week all from home. When I lose her I may go back to my normal working pattern, or not ....

Previous 2 contracts were 3 days a week and before that 5 days a week. I have time off between contracts.

Back to my original question why are there so many anti-contractors on here, Why are they so jeolous?

Contracting is a natural progression.

How can one person be so wrong? People contract for many different reasons as you should well know if you're a contractor and you mix with other contractors. Some for the money, some for the flexibility and some because they are not good enough to get a permie job. Contracting is an option, but certainly not a natural progression. Many many people are happy and very successful as permie.

Off course you are not an employee but even with abhorrently expensive, ineffective agencies they integrate themselves in the office, the work side by side and then and only then are they half decent. (i use that term loosely)

So my question was, 1st up why do so many people on a contractor forum have such strong anti contractor sentiment and actually what business of theirs is it how much we earn?

2nd up, Contractors are not employees, disguised or other.

3rd, the alternative to contractors are agencies who are expensive, unproductive and notoriously difficult and unwieldy to manage.

The only time I've seen agency staff do well is when they are, surprise surprise, integrated and embedded within the end clients offices. A bit like an employee.

Clearly this law was bought in to protect big agencies not for the benefit of the economy, not for ordinary working people, not for business.

I'll write more when I have time but I think the answer here is contractors banding together and offering clients value added service rather than rip off big agency fees.
