    Contract dilemma.

It’s strange times but the market is picking up. I took a contract three months ago which is more junior and specialised to my normal line of work. I have a renewal offer for six months. Kind of a nodding dog role but 100% remote. Would be nice to have a renewal to show otherwise it may look wrong....

I have another offer - also six months, same money, much more senior and interesting. However probably 3-4 days on site 100 miles away. Both great clients and both roles likely to renew well into next year for different reasons. Nodding dog doing easy home work or too dog pumping out the motorway miles is the dilemma...

Same money, remote - take it.

Don't waste your life on the motorway.

There will come a time where doing nodding dog work will start to get demoralising. It's great to take a chill job every now and then as a bit of a break but it does sap your energy in other ways.

I'd also worry how a junior role looks on your CV, could it detract from your previous experience and risk your ability to get more lucrative work? You don't want to give the impression of heading backwards.

That said, motorway time is time wasted. If the rate of the interesting work goes some way to compensating for that then I'd be tempted to go for it.

Is it 3-4 days on site, or more like 3-5, but actually more like 4-5 with the occasional (read often) 5 day on site per week?

Depends I think how brain dead your current contract is making you, then again, doing 100 miles a day will probably be acceptable for the first week and then you'll be cursing the day you switched contracts.

I personally wouldn't worry to much about the junior aspect of it, as you can simply take away the "junior" bit from your CV.

Life's too short to waste it on the motorway.

That's a lot of travel for same amount of money. I'd probably stick with the current role. Don't worry about seniority, it's one contract and during very strange times.

If it’s a 100 miles commute, that’s probably 2-3 extra hours a day, so even accounting for the mileage costs, it’s not the same money.

If you’re that bothered about it looking junior, use some of the many extra hours you save by investing in some training/certification.
