HMRC only wants to nail small companies

Amazon will NOT be impacted by GBP500m digital services tax - but smaller retailers will be | Daily Mail Online

    I particularly like this bit:

In August it was reported that the Treasury was considering ditching the tax after Mr Sunak concluded that the £500million a year it is expected to raise is a pinprick compared with the hundreds of billions of pounds dent to the nation's finances caused by the coronavirus epidemic.
However it is worth destroying the IT contractor sector with IR35?

It's clear this Tory govt are only interested in destroying small businesses.

Why do you think Sunak left a glittering Financial Services career to work in the Treasury? Public service?

Any extra tax on big marketplace will obviously be passed down the chain

The Tories have never been supporters of small businesses, they favour corporates and multinationals. Legislation and taxation suppresses small and encourages corporates to crush business. As an example, independent petrol stations are put under immense pressure either to stop trading or sell up to one of the major supermarkets or petroleum companies. It is amazing what concessions are given by both national and local government to major supermarkets or petroleum companies.

            Yes, MF....

Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Hey Labour were keen on IR35 so they can send out search parties (lord Mandleslime) for (cheap) foreign staff.

Doesn't matter what colour you vote in, they all have someone pulling their strings, and it ain't Cummins, but rather who pulls his strings, and the rest of them.

String pulling requires power and power requires money (or other forms of bribery/blackmail as a pressure). You ain't gonna see that from small/medium business. So suck it up, either get large enough to wield the power or play to their rules and keep an eye out for the loopholes you can fit through.

Some thought it was a comedy, but Only Fools and Horses (work) was a reminder. You don't look much like a horse so ...

If you play their game and lose there's always cardboard city. It's the only affordable housing they offer.
Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.

No one in the right mind would go after huge corps that have huge legal depts ready to absolutely destroy whatever accusations you send their way and most likely humiliate you in the process. Much easier to bully tiny businesses, especially considering HMRC lack of understanding of their own rules.
