I have previously mentioned that my mother worked supporting social services in Aberdeen. She was involved in the removal process; it's not pretty, it's never done on a whim, and it's always done in the best interests of the child... though they may not understand that until they are older.

Would that it not be necessary.

We live in a society that seems to be wedded to late intervention and late intervention is never a long-term solution.

Interesting that the number of food parcels went up by ~150,000 (2017 - 2018)~250,000 (2018-2019) and 300,000 during 2019-2020. The demand seems to be accelerating nicely before the pandemic.

I agree down south the problem is housing cost but then we increased our population without increasing our housing stock no government has bothered to build enough.

      We need to
      1. separate housing cost from benefits.
      Nothing wrong with that.

People in expensive areas need teachers, cleaners, nurses etc.

Plus others you don't automatically think off like tree surgeons. Apparently there is a shortage of tree surgeons in London and the SE due to housing costs.

How do you train someone on £50K who loses their job and livelihood in a pandemic to suddenly live on less? There are loads of other unforseen circumstances.

Other posters have discussed this but the thing you need to get in the front of your mind is the state makes a poor parent.

And lots of their parents are on benefits.

Most people on benefits are working. The benefits system actually subsidies employers from the likes of Tescos and Next, to local government and the NHS.

          I signed that.

If you are an MP you can afford to pay the full Central London price for food and drink.

The only people who should get subsidies are the cleaners and other staff who are poorly paid.

I thought they could expense it all anyway? The MP salary at first sight is very high, at second sight you realise they have a lot of outgoings, but then you realise their expenses are pretty comprehensive.

Information on full fact- Not all of these claims about what MPs can claim in expenses are correct - Full Fact

If they paid the full central London prices most would definitely be out of pocket.
